On foot

A pleasant stroll connects our hotel to the historic centre of Siena (in a few minutes you’ll find yourself immersed in the picturesque streets of Siena and in the beautiful districts of the Tuscan city).

In particular, it takes about five minutes from Porta Camollia (early historical centre), about 15 minutes from Piazza Gramsci (city bus station) which is adjacent to the football stadium of Siena (named Artemio Franchi), about 25 minutes from Piazza del Campo (where the famous Palio takes place), the Public Palace, the Tower of Mangia and the Siena Cathedral.

Set in the same building as the eye clinic of the renowned Prof. Aldo Caporossi, it is only few minutes walk (not more than five) from the sports arena of the Mens Sana, from the headquarters and offices of Novartis and Glaxo-of Banca Monte dei Paschi, the Barracks Bandini and Superintendency of Education of Siena (sites in Piazza G. Amendola).

The Siena train station and the University for Foreigners of Siena (sites in Piazza Carlo Rosselli) are both less than ten minutes away thanks to the mechanized lift near the Antiporto Camollia.

  • A few steps from Porta Camollia

Porta Camollia, one of the ancient accesses in the walls of Siena, is known for having been for centuries the main entrance coming from Florence. It is located at the end of Via Camollia, in the territory of the Contrada Sovrana dell’Istrice.

According to some reconstructions, in the eighth century BC Romulus, the founder of Rome, sent the leader Camulio to take the grandchildren Aschio and Senio prisoners.

Here Camulio built his camp and that is why this site was given his name and passed down through the centuries. Porta Camollia has always had a certain importance in history because it faces the city of Florence. On the outer arch is an inscription dating back to the entrance of Ferdinand I de’ Medici in Siena: Cor magis tibi Sena pandit [“Siena opens for you a bigger heart” (than the door you’re going through)].

Hence, a vacation in our B & B in Siena contributes to an experience steeped in history and rooted (and intact) in the Contrada traditions of the city of the Palio; it also offers the opportunity to sample and taste the special cuisine of Siena: in the immediate vicinity of our facility are in fact located many taverns and restaurants where you can taste local dishes. Walking through the narrow streets of the old town, just across the Porta Camollia, it is ultimately possible to come across charming medieval taverns or the Enoteca Italiana of Siena (located in the Medici fortress).
